Malamutes have beautiful, harsh double coats that require weekly grooming and they also shed twice a year.

The Malamute is a freighting sled dog, featuring a powerful body, built for strength and stamina. They enjoy an active life.... a bored Malamute could become destructive. There are events and clubs throughout the UK designed for sled dogs, imitating disciplines similar to what they were bred for. They can offer help and advice regarding mushing activities, weight pulling and back packing.
Dominance
Alaskan Malamutes temperaments are extremely human affectionate, however it is not completely unusual for them to show dominance towards the same sex or different breeds. This all depends on the individual dog and how well it is socialised.
Prey Drive
Although in some circumstances, training recall can be successful, as a general rule, an off lead malamute could be a recipe for disaster... along with their selective hearing when they spot something a lot more interesting than you!!
Alaskan Malamutes are a joy to live with but need an active lifestyle to ensure their needs are being met. They are a loyal companion with a huge personality, when raised correctly they will give you the most rewarding (if at times challenging) relationship!!
